How much do you need?

Measuring your areas

Measure each area by itself by stepping off the length and the width: each stride is about 3 feet. Length times width gives that area in square feet. Repeat for every area, then add them up.

Don't add all the lengths and multiply by all the widths: the total will be wrong. The calculator does it the right way; add a line for each area.

How much will my pickup hold?

A full-size 3/4 or 1 ton pickup holds about 3 cubic yards, slightly rounded, but weight matters: most full-size pickups handle 3 yards of mulch, 2 yards of compost, or 1 to 1.5 yards of soil. With rock, a full-size pickup can take between 0.5 and 1 cubic yard. A compact pickup hauls about half of that.

Never load more than is reasonable, or more than your vehicle is rated to carry.
