Coarse sandConstruction Sand
Coarse, general-purpose sand for gardens, pavers and concrete.Quarry rock comes from a mountain. It is blasted out, then crushed and sized, so it's angular. Large pieces are used as specimens; crushed and screened, it makes driveways and paths.
River rock comes from a river deposit. Rolling down the river made it round. It is dug from the ground, then screened for size. (We don't stock crushed river rock, but can get it in 10-yard loads.)
Open means a gravel without fines (baby rocks): the spaces between the rocks stay open, so water flows through easily.
Minus means the fines are in. Rock is crushed and passed over a screen; everything that size and smaller falls through. 1 inch minus is rock from 1 inch down to dust. It packs well, for construction and driveways.
