About Red Fir
From the Douglas fir tree, this bark is commonly used in landscaping and is available year round. Like hemlock, fir bark gives a finished look, holds moisture, protects plants and helps with weed control.
Fir bark is more acidic than other barks, so it is the perfect choice around rhododendrons, azaleas and hydrangeas. Blueberries love a more acidic soil too! Available red (fresh from the saw mill) or dark (aged). If slivers are not an issue for you, fir bark is a less expensive alternative to hemlock with the same quality and look.
